Exelon Commits to White House Equal Pay Pledge to Promote Gender Equity in the Workplace

Focus on fair pay for women and all employees is part of company’s commitment to diversity and inclusion

CHICAGO — Exelon announced a first-time partnership with the White House as a signatory to the Equal Pay Pledge, an initiative to encourage major companies to  take action and commit their support to closing the national gender pay gap. Exelon will join other leading companies that have signed the pledge in acknowledging the critical role businesses must play in reducing the pay gap and in promoting best practices that will ensure fundamental fairness for all workers.

As part of Exelon’s commitment, the company will conduct an annual organization-wide gender pay analysis of all occupations. The company will also review hiring and  promotion processes to neutralize unconscious bias and embed equal pay efforts into broader enterprise-wide equity initiatives.

“Signing the White House Equal Pay Pledge affirms our commitment to upholding fair treatment for all of our employees and aligns with our values,” said Chris Crane, president and CEO of Exelon. “Diversity and inclusion is critical to Exelon’s success, and we believe our workforce programs must include transparency and fairness. Advancing pay equity is not simply a good business practice; it’s the right thing to do.”
“Inequality in the workforce doesn’t just adversely affect women; it affects our families and our broader economy,” said White House Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett. “As President Obama says, ‘When women succeed, America succeeds.’ That’s why today’s announcement is a great step in the right direction and the Obama Administration applauds companies making this commitment to advance equal pay. However, the work doesn’t stop there. We must continue to ask what more we can all do to ensure that the 21st century workplace reflects the priorities and values of the 21st century worker.”

Exelon’s signing of the Equal Pay Pledge was also recognized by the National Partnership for Women & Families. “We commend Exelon’s dedication to promoting pay equity in the workplace by signing the White House Equal Pay Pledge, and we urge others to follow in the company’s footsteps to strengthen workplace protections for women and advance fair and family friendly policies,” said organization President Debra Ness. “This commitment is an important step in combatting the persistent gender-based pay gap that harms so many women and families in our country.”

Exelon is committed to implementing programs to attract and retain the very best talent to continue to drive growth across our diverse businesses. The company’s initiatives to support the success of women at the company include a variety of internal and external programs and training opportunities focused on women’s development, advancement and retention. These include sponsorship of the employee resource group Network of Exelon Women (NEW), a Women’s Leadership Development Summit and programs such as Leading Women Executives and the Odyssey Network Business Retreat, an annual conference for multicultural women.
