Dresden to Host Community Information Night Dec. 7

Event helps inform residents about station operations

MORRIS, Ill. (Nov. 23, 2010) – Have you ever wondered how nuclear power is generated or how a nuclear plant operates? If you attend Dresden Station’s Community Information Night, you’ll find answers to these questions and many more. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, at the Grundy County Administration Center, 1320 Union Street in Morris, Ill.

Station employees and other technical experts will be on hand to educate attendees on plant operations, spent fuel storage, safety and security, environment efforts and community outreach initiatives.

“We look forward to discussing our operations with area residents at the Community Information Night,” said Dresden Site Vice President Tim Hanley. “We want the public to understand how we generate safe, clean and reliable electricity while protecting the plant, our workers, our neighbors and the environment.”

Dresden Generating Station is approximately 60 miles southwest of Chicago. The station’s two operating units can produce more than 1,700 megawatts net of electricity, enough to power nearly 2 million average homes. Dresden Unit 1, which began commercial operation in 1960 and was retired in 1978, has been designated a Nuclear Historic Landmark by the American Nuclear Society.
