Dresden Employees Raise Funds to Benefit Dwight Students Affected byTornado

 Taste of Dresden generates $1,200

MORRIS, Ill. (July 9, 2010) – The employees at Exelon Nuclear’s Dresden Generating Station raised just over $1,200 to help students in Dwight, Ill. who were affected by the tornado that struck the area last month.

“Dwight Public Schools and the community are grateful to the employees of Dresden Station for their generous donation,” said Dwight Public School Superintendent Dale Adams. “These funds will be used to pay school registrations and supplies for the victims of the June 5 tornado. I am amazed by the outpouring of support that has come from outside our community. We are blessed to live in an area with such caring people.”

The money was raised on June 23 through the Taste of Dresden, an event sponsored by the station’s Diversity Council featuring food that reflects the ethnic origins of the site’s workforce.

“When our employees learned that this year’s Taste of Dresden would help students affected by the recent tornado, they opened their hearts and wallets to help,” said Plant Manager Shane Marik.

Dresden Generating Station is approximately 60 miles southwest of Chicago. The station’s two operating units can produce more than 1,700 megawatts net of electricity per hour. Dresden Unit 1, which began commercial operation in 1960 and was retired in 1978, has been designated a Nuclear Historic Landmark by the American Nuclear Society.
