Braidwood Station Raises Record $199,000 in Annual United Way Campaign

In 2009, employees raised more than $199,000 during its annual United Way Campaign, a new station record.

Braceville, Illinois - While generating electricity is its core business, Exelon Nuclear’s Braidwood Station prides itself on being a good neighbor. In 2009, employees raised more than $199,000 during its annual United Way Campaign, a new station record.

Braidwood Station employees have a long tradition of supporting their community and this year they again participated through the company’s payroll deduction program. Their donations will go to several local United Way chapters.

In a down-turned economy, I’m glad that we can continue to provide a high-level of support to the United Way,” said Braidwood Site Vice President Amir Shahkarami. “We strive to be good neighbors and support the communities where we live and work. Supporting the United Way is one way we do that.”

In addition to the $199,000 raised by employees in its annual campaign, Braidwood Station also supported United Way agencies such as Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Will/Grundy County and Guardian Angels Community Service of Will County.

In 2009, Braidwood Station and its employees donated more than $300,000 to local and regional non-profit groups.

Braidwood Generating Station is approximately 60 miles southwest of Chicago. The station’s two nuclear energy units can produce a total of more than 2,300 megawatts at full power - enough electricity to power more than 2 million homes.
