Exelon Nuclear’s Oyster Creek Generating Station has partnered with the students, parents, and teachers of Forked River schools through it’s recent contribution of $9,600 to purchase 30 ActivSlates that are compatible with the school's Promethean "Active Classroom" Technology.

The technology will be used across six area schools, and allows students and teachers to interact with Promethean ActivBoards - large interactive displays that combine the simplicity of a whiteboard, power of a computer and front projection.

"The teaching and learning benefit of the 'Active Classroom' is the most impressive advancement I have seen in my 40 years in public education," said Lacey Township School Superintendent Rich Starodub. "The students in Lacey schools are excited about the ActivSlates, and on behalf of the student body and faculty, I thank Oyster Creek Generating Station for its generosity."

"We strive to be good neighbors and support the communities where many of employees both live and work," said Mike Massaro, Oyster Creek Site Vice President. "We are honored to be involved with Lacey schools and its efforts to improve the lives of children in this area.”

To date, Oyster Creek has donated more than $40,000 to organizations in Ocean County for educational, environmental and community initiatives. In addition, the employees of Oyster Creek also donated more than $380,000 to the United Way of Ocean County.

Oyster Creek is a 636-megawatt boiling water reactor capable of providing the carbon-free energy needed for about 600,000 homes. The station is located about 50 miles east of Philadelphia and 75 miles south of New York City.
