Owning, operating and developing wind generation

Exelon Wind, a division of Exelon Power, has a portfolio of 44 wind projects, located in 10 states. The wind projects combined can produce nearly 1,300 megawatts (MW) of clean electricity.

Wind Investment

Wind power is a source of clean, renewable energy and creates jobs and revenue for landowners and local communities. 

  • Through Exelon Wind, Exelon is committed to providing clean, environmentally-friendly power generation to customers.
  • Wind and other clean energy sources are important elements of Exelon’s strategy to offer more low-carbon electricity in the marketplace as part of Exelon 2020: A Low-Carbon Roadmap. The goal of Exelon 2020 is to eliminate the equivalent of the company’s 2001 carbon footprint, or 15 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions, by 2020.
  • Approximately 75% of the output from the wind projects owned by Exelon is contracted through long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs). 
  • Exelon Wind has developed seven wind projects in five states:
    • In Michigan, Exelon Wind has developed three wind projects.  The first, Michigan Wind 2 Project went into full commercial operation in January 2012.  It was the first commercial wind project constructed by Exelon.  In November 2012, Harvest II Wind Project went into commercial operation followed in December 2012 by Beebe Renewable Energy Wind Project. 
    • Wildcat Wind Project went into commercial operation in July 2012.  Wildcat, a 27 MW project, is Exelon Wind's first wind project in New Mexico.
    • Shooting Star Wind Project, a 104 MW wind project in Kiowa County, Kan., went into full commercial operation in September 2012.
    • Whitetail Wind Project, a 92 MW wind project in Laredo, Texas, went into commercial operation in December 2012. 
    • High Mesa Wind Project, a 40 MW wind project in Twin Falls, Idaho, went into commercial operation in December 2012.
  • In 2012, through the Exelon's merger with Constellation, the company added Criterion Wind Project, a 70 MW wind farm located in Maryland.

AgriWind Project is located in Tiskilwa, Illinois. AgriWind went into commercial operation in January 2008 and its four turbines are capable of producing 8.4 MW of clean electricity.

Beebe Renewable Energy Wind Project

Beebe Renewable Energy Wind Project is a 34 turbine, 81.6 MW wind project located in Ithaca, Michigan. Beebe went into commercial operation in December 2012. Consumers Energy is purchasing energy from the project under a long-term power purchase agreement.

Blue Breezes Wind Project is located in Blue Earth, Minn. Blue Breezes went into commercial operation in April 2006 and its two turbines are capable of producing 2.5 MW of clean electricity.

Bluegrass Ridge Wind Project is located in King City, Missouri. Bluegrass Ridge went into commercial operation in January 2008 and its 27 turbines are capable of producing 56.7 MW of clean electricity.

Brewster Wind Project is located in Brewster, Minnesota. Brewster Wind Project went into commercial operation in December 2003 and its six turbines are capable of producing 5.7 MW of clean electricity.

Cassia Wind Project

Cassia Wind Project

Cassia Wind Project is located in Twin Falls County, Idaho. Cassia went into commercial operation in March 2009 and its 14 turbines can produce 29.4 MW, enough clean electricity to power more than 9,000 homes. Idaho Power purchases energy from the project under a long-term power purchase agreement.

CP Wind Project is located in Winnebago, Minnesota. CP Wind Project went into commercial operation in April 2008 and its two turbines are capable of producing 4.2 MW of clean electricity.

Criterion Wind Project

Criterion Wind Project

Criterion Wind Project is located on Backbone Mountain in Garrett County, Maryland. The 70 MW project consists of 28 turbines and went into commercial operation in December 2010. Old Dominion Electric Cooperative has a 20-year power purchase agreement to purchase the output and renewable energy credits produced by Criterion.

Echo I, II, and III Wind Projects

Echo I, II, and III Wind Projects

All three Echo Wind Projects are located in Echo, Oregon. Combined, they can produce 64.6 MW, enough clean electricity to power more than 19,000 homes. They went into commercial operation in the Summer 2009. PacifiCorp purchases energy from the project under a long-term power purchase agreement.

Greensburg Wind Project is located southwest of Greensburg in Kiowa County, Kansas. Greensburg Wind Project went into commercial operation in March 2010 and its 10 turbines are capable of producing 12.5 MW, enough clean electricity to power approximately 4,000 homes. Kansas Power Pool purchases energy from the project under a long-term power purchase agreement.

Harvest I Wind Project

Harvest I Wind Project was Michigan’s first commercial-scale wind project and spans 3,200 acres between Elkton and Pigeon, in Huron County, Michigan. Harvest I went into commercial operation January 2008 and its 32 turbines are capable of producing 52.8 MW of clean electricity. Wolverine Power Cooperative has a 20-year agreement to purchase the output from the Harvest I Wind Project.

Harvest II Wind Project went into commercial operation in November 2012. Harvest II is a 33 turbine, 59 MW wind project located near Harvest I Wind Project in Huron County, Michigan. Consumers Energy has a 20 year agreement to purchase the output of Harvest II.

Michigan Wind 1 went into commercial operation in December 2008 and its 46 turbines are capable of producing 69 MW, enough clean electricity to power approximately 20,000 homes. Consumers Energy is purchasing energy from the project under a long-term power purchase agreement.

Mountain Home Wind Project is located in Glenns Ferry, Idaho. Mountain Home went into commercial operation in January 2009 and its 20 turbines can produce 42 MW, enough clean electricity to power more than 12,000 homes. Idaho Power purchases energy from the project under a long-term power purchase agreement.

Shooting Star Wind Project is 104 MW wind project in Kiowa County, Kansas. It went into commerical operation in September 2012. Mid-Kansas Electric Company has a 20-year agreement to purchase 100% of the output from the Shooting Star Wind Project.

Whitetail Wind Project is a 57 turbine, 92 MW wind project located in Laredo, Texas. Whitetail went into commercial operation in December 2012. The project has a 25-year power purchase agreement with Austin Energy for its entire output.
