Exelon’s investment in, and commitment to, low-emission technologies for the majority of our owned generating capacity enables us to keep our generation portfolio air emission rates well below industry averages. Exelon made significant early investments in SO2 scrubbers at our owned coal-fired generating units in the early 1980s. Since the mid-1990s, we have invested in advanced NOx controls to support compliance with eastern United States regional NOx reduction programs and Texas non-attainment area regulations. Starting in 2010, mercury emissions from our coal-fired power plants in Pennsylvania will be regulated under state law. As a result, we are currently implementing mercury emission monitoring systems and finalizing compliance plans. We continue to work with regulators and communities to achieve positive program results.
