2008 Environmental Highlights

- Exelon exceeded its Climate Leaders target, achieving a more than 30% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
- Exelon launched Exelon 2020, a low-carbon roadmap.
- Exelon’s focus on its own energy usage efficiency yielded more than 50 projects and process changes across 35 sites resulting in a reduction of 2%, or 10 billion Btu.
- Exelon enhanced its commitment to renewables with
- Exelon Power Team selling close to 1 million RECs and adding over 200 MW of renewables to its power purchase agreement portfolio;
- PECO becoming the first utility in Pennsylvania to procure AEPS credits - 240,000 MWh of wind - in advance of state mandatory requirements; and
- PECO WINDSM sold 172,000 MWh of wind RECs to nearly 36,000 customers.

Exelon Nuclear achieved an average capacity factor of 93.9% at our owned and operated nuclear plants, marking six consecutive years in excess of 93%; our owned nuclear plants produced over 139,000 GWh of virtually greenhouse gas emission-free electricity.

Exelon Power completed installation of mercury CEMS at its coal-fired units in preparation for 2010 Pennsylvania regulation.

ComEd launched its Smart Ideas energy-efficiency programs and began purchasing 2% of its supply from renewable sources.

Generated over $19.7 million in value from recycling 2,200 tons of office waste, 15,000 tons of scrap metal and 714,800 gallons of used oil; reused more than 84% of over 142,000 tons of coal and scrubber byproduct.

Six more Exelon organizations received ISO 14001 certifications for their environmental management programs; increasing to 80% the total of ISO 14001 certified operations within Exelon.
- Exelon was named for the third consecutive year to both the Dow Jones Sustainability Index-North America and the Carbon Disclosure Project’s Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index.
