Economic Development
Exelon Wind's fleet is currently comprised of 38 wind projects, which are capable of generating nearly 900 megawatts (MW) of clean electricty. The wind projects are located in nine states: Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Oregon and Texas.
- Approximately 75% of the Exelon Wind operating portfolio is already sold under long-term power purchase arrangements.
- In January 2012, Michigan Wind 2 Project went into full commercial operation. It is the first commerical wind project constructed by Exelon. Exelon Wind is currently developing two additional wind projects in Michigan.
- Exelon has also purchased Shooting Star Wind Project, a 104 MW wind project in Kiowa County, Kan. Construction of Shooting Star began in November 2011, and the project is expected to begin full commercial operation in the fourth quarter of 2012.
- In 2012, through the Exelon's merger with Constellation, the company added Criterion Wind Project, a 70 meagwatt wind farm located in Maryland.
Environmental Commitment
Wind and other clean energy sources are important elements of Exelon’s strategy to offer more low-carbon electricity in the marketplace as part of Exelon 2020: A Low-Carbon Roadmap. The goal of Exelon 2020 is to eliminate the equivalent of the company’s 2001 carbon footprint, or 15 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions, by 2020.
