Energy Diversity for Pennsylvania

Exelon features a diverse energy portfolio within Pennsylvania. With 12 fossil power plants, one pumped storage hydroelectric power plant, 3 nuclear power plants and PECO’s service area in southeastern Pennsylvania, Exelon provides clean, affordable energy and jobs throughout the state. We are a culture that believes strongly in contributing to charitable causes, volunteering in our communities and strengthening the regions in which we work.

Economic Development

Exelon and its family of companies employ 6,153 people in Pennsylvania and contributed more than $393.7 million to the state via tax payments in 2010.

Exelon Generation operates 3 nuclear power plants, 12 fossil power plants and one pumped storage hydroelectric power plant in the state. Exelon Energy serves commercial and industrial customers in Pennsylvania given the restructured market that allows customer choice.

PECO  delivers electricity to 1.6 million customers and natural gas to 490,000 customers in the southeastern region of the state.

Environmental Commitment

We diligently seek to manage our environmental impact  by reducing our carbon emissions, exploring new green sources of energy and educating the public about conservation practices.

One of the most rewarding aspects of public education involves the work we accomplish with students. Located in Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania, in the Keystone Industrial Port Complex, the Renewable Energy Education Center  features a variety of interactive displays to spark students’ interest in how electricity is created using landfill gas, the sun, wind and water. At the education center, students are challenged to consider the cost of the various forms of electricity and to also consider energy-saving opportunities.

Community Involvement

Exelon believes that enriching our communities  is in everyone’s best interest. Exelon employees throughout Pennsylvania record more than 16,500 volunteer hours and the company provides about $7 million to charitable causes through grants each year. PECO contributes about $5 million annually to non-profit organizations, events and programs in the areas of education, safety, the environment and arts and culture.
