Economic Development
Exelon Corporate and Exelon Nuclear headquarters, ComEd, 6 nuclear plants, one wind project, one solar plant and one peaker plant are all located in the northern and central regions of the state. In total, Exelon and its family of companies contribute about 12,000 jobs to the local economy and more than $1 billion in property tax payments.
Our delivery company, ComEd provides reliable electricity to 3.8 million customers. Exelon Nuclear owns and operates 6 nuclear plants and Exelon Power operates one wind project, one solar plant and one peaker plant in the state. Exelon Energy will integrate with Constellation as part of the recent merger to provide customer choice through retail energy sales to residential, commercial and industrial customers in Illinois.
Constellation provides commercial, industrial, public sector and government agencies, municipalities and utilities with a comprehensive array of products and services to meet electricity, natural gas, and sustainability needs. Constellation also provides competitive pricing for electricity and natural gas, as well as renewable energy options for residential customers.
Environmental Commitment
We diligently seek to manage our environmental impact. Between 2010 and 2011, Exelon employees mulched over 1000 trees in Grant Park, a prominent recreational area in downtown Chicago. Mulching retains moisture during hot, dry summer months and conditions the soil so it absorbs more rain water. Exelon's tree stewardship has become integral to the health of Grant Park's urban forest.
In 2010, Exelon constructed Exelon City Solar, a 10-megawatt solar installation, located on a 41-acre brownfield in Chicago’s West Pullman neighborhood. The $60 million project captures the sun’s rays and converts them into 14,000 megawatt-hours of clean electricity per year.

Community Involvement
At Exelon, our employees get involved where they work and live. Our Illinois employees recorded more than 34,000 volunteer hours and Exelon and its operating companies donated over $11.8 million in grants to charitable causes in 2011. Furthermore, our senior management team and other employees serve on numerous charitable boards throughout the Chicago area.
We believe that one of the best ways to benefit our communities is by supporting education. The Stay in School Initiative is Exelon's partnership with the United Way focused on spurring graduation rates and stemming truancy in three Chicago communities with some of the highest dropout rates in the city. Students who participated in the Stay in School Initiative last year had a 93% graduation rate, well above the 55% average in Chicago Public Schools.

Power Plants
Braidwood Generating Station, Exelon's newest nuclear power station, is located in northeastern Illinois, about 60 miles southwest of Chicago in Will County. The 2-unit station is built on a 4,457-acre site and its cooling lake was formed from scarred farming land and an old strip mine.

Dresden Generating Station, located in rural Grundy County in northern Illinois, is home to the nation’s first full-scale, privately financed nuclear power plant, which began operation in 1960. The 2-unit facility can produce enough energy to power more than 1.5 million average American homes.

Zion Station is a former nuclear generating facility that has been converted into an electrical grid voltage-stabilizing facility. It is located on the western shore of Lake Michigan in the Northeast Illinois community of Zion. After more than 20 years of operation, Zion's two reactors were permanently shut down on January 15, 1998.
