Mystic Generating Station

Mystic Generating Station

Mystic Generating Station is owned and operated by Exelon Power, a business unit of Exelon Generation. Mystic is an eight unit, 2,002 megawatt (MW) fossil power plant located in Charlestown, Massachusetts.

Mystic 8 and 9 are 2-on-1 combined cycle gas turbines which are each capable of producing 690.9 MW.  Mystic 7 is a 577.6 MW unit that is fueled by either natural gas or oil, depending on market conditions.  Mystic Jet is an 8.6 MW oil fueled peaking unit which is run during periods of high demand.

Mystic Generating Station joined Exelon Power’s fleet in 2012 as part of Exelon’s merger with Constellation.

Emergency Planning

All Exelon facilities employ sophisticated emergency response plans to protect public health and safety. These plans are reviewed and approved by state governments and regulatory agencies. The emergency planning includes coordination with local counties, municipalities and school districts.

Supporting the Local Economy

Mystic Generating Station pays local real estate taxes every year to support county and township government, area schools, libraries, park districts and other taxing bodies.
