The 40-year license term reflects the amortization period generally used by electric utility companies for large capital investments. Limerick Unit 1’s original license continues through Oct. 26, 2024 and Unit 2’s license continues through June 22, 2029. With license renewal, Limerick Generating Station Unit 1 and Unit 2 will be able to produce clean, low-cost energy until 2044 and 2049.

A Reliable Energy Source
Limerick Generating Station is an always-on, stable source of electricity. Reliability can be measured by capacity factor, which is the amount of electricity actually produced compared with how much electricity would be produced if the plant operated at full capacity, 100 percent of the time. Limerick’s average combined capacity factor was 94.4 percent in 2010, higher than the U.S. nuclear industry's average of 91.2 percent.
