Thanks to our friends at Waste Management Inc., Exelon Power has a conveniently located source for landfill gas, or methane, across the street at the two landfills operated by Waste Management.

Landfill gas is created as solid waste (i.e., trash) decomposes in a landfill. The gas consists of 50 percent methane, approximately 50 percent carbon dioxide, and a small amount of non-methane organic compounds.

At this highly interactive exhibit, students will be able to follow the path of methane as it makes its journey from the Waste Management fields, is cleaned for use by Exelon’s turbines and, ultimately, turned into electricity that you use to power your iPods and other electronic devices.
