Cordova, Ill - Operators returned Quad Cities Generating Station Unit 2 to full power yesterday.
Exelon Nuclear employees and technical experts performed more than 14,000 work activities, including equipment upgrades, extensive safety inspections and tests, and numerous plant improvements while the unit was offline.
"Our plant equipment is continuously kept up to date with the latest technology and maintained to the very highest levels," said Tim Hanley, site vice president. "We meticulously disassemble, inspect, reassemble and test the various reactor components to ensure the continued reliable operation of the facility."
These preventive maintenance activities ensure the facility's ability to continue providing clean, safe and reliable electricity for another two-year operating cycle.
The Unit 2 refueling outage began March 19.
Quad Cities Generating Station is located approximately 3 miles north of Cordova in Rock Island County. With both units at full power, the site can produce enough carbon-free electricity for more than 1 million homes.
