Limerick Generating Station Helps Pottstown Students Become the Area’s Newest Forecasters with WeatherBug Station
Students at Pottstown High School may be able to predict their snow days this year with the help of their new WeatherBug Station, installed at the school earlier this year through an $18,000 contribution from Limerick Generating Station.
POTTSTOWN, Pa. - Will it be another snowy winter? Students at Pottstown High School may be able to predict their snow days this year with the help of their new WeatherBug Station, installed at the school earlier this year through an $18,000 contribution from Limerick Generating Station.
"With the WeatherBug Achieve program, teachers and students in kindergarten through twelfth grade will have access to weather data and be able to learn how to apply it in their daily work," said Dr. Reed Lindley, Pottstown School District superintendent. "We thank Limerick Generating Station for their generous gift that will allow our students to apply their math and science skills as they review information and make weather predictions."
"Limerick Generating Station is excited anytime students are given an additional opportunity to learn more about the sciences and enhance their education," said Bill Maguire, Limerick Generating Station site vice president.
The WeatherBug Station was mounted to Pottstown High School's roof and translates live weather data to the WeatherBug Web site. The live weather data will be accessible to any school in the district to use throughout the day.
"The WeatherBug program is a great addition to our curriculum and I thank Exelon for helping to fund it," said Laura Christie, Earth and Space Science teacher in the Pottstown School District. "The lesson plans will not only relate to science, but also geography, language arts and history."
WeatherBug offers an exciting approach to engaging high school students in the sciences and science-related career fields. The station includes tools to measure wind speed, temperature, heat index, wind chill, dew points and more; and includes a comprehensive curriculum and lesson plans.
