MARSEILLES, Ill. (May 26, 2009) - LaSalle County Generating Station's Unit 1 resumed producing electricity Sunday, May 25 at 4:18 p.m. (CT).
Unit 1 automatically and safely shut down due to the failure of a lightning protection device in the one of the plant's four main power transformers. Station personnel performed testing on the transformer throughout the weekend, and testing indicated that the transformer may safely return to service.
LaSalle County Generating Station is located approximately 75 miles southwest of Chicago. With both units at full power, the site produces more than 2,200 megawatts net, which is enough electricity for 2.3 million homes.
