CLINTON, IL - Clinton Power Station automatically shut down at 8 a.m. today, after the main generator tripped off line. The plant responded as expected, safely, and without incident.
The main generator is the machine that produces electricity at the station and is on the non-nuclear side of the plant.
Clinton operators are fully investigating the cause of the shutdown. There was no impact to the public and the shutdown will not affect electrical service to customers.
Clinton Power Station is located approximately six miles east of Clinton. The plant produces 1,078 megawatts, enough electricity for about one million homes.
