BYRON, Ill. - A multi-faceted team at Byron Generating Station completed the final phase of equipment upgrades over the weekend and operators restored Unit 2 to service at 10:39 p.m. on Sunday.
"Our team did a fantastic job of safely making robust upgrades to our facility that will ensure the safe and reliable operation of both units through the summer months and beyond," said Byron Station Site Vice President Tim Tulon.
The station's Unit 2 turbine was taken offline Friday morning in order for employees to complete insulator replacements in the facility's switchyard. The same work was performed last weekend on the equipment that supports Byron Unit 1. Byron Unit 1 was brought back online on Thursday, March 15.
Both units are back online generating electricity.
Byron Generating Station is in Ogle County, Ill., about 25 miles southwest of Rockford.
