 Holidays, Outreach and Exelon

Clinton Power Station supports the community through the year, but especially during holidays

Clinton, Illinois – “The holidays will be a little brighter for hundreds in DeWitt County, thanks in part to Exelon Nuclear and Clinton Power Station,” said Sissy Leggett, director of the DeWitt County Friendship Center. “The contributions and support in both funds and employee time are a huge benefit to this community.”

This statement comes on the heels of more than $20,000 in holiday contributions as well as Clinton Station employee volunteer support in November and December to the surrounding community.

This year, station employees helped prepare, serve and deliver meals at Thanksgiving with the Clinton Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post 4168 as well as helping the Friendship Center with their holiday meal. There will also be volunteer help for similar needs on Christmas Eve with the Ladies Auxiliary.

Employees took it upon themselves to organize a holiday pie sale fundraiser, collecting more than $2,000 in additional charitable funds, and a food drive to help restock local charities and food pantries. Recipients of station holiday support also include: DeWitt County Assistance Exchange (DAX), Salt Creek Resource Center Food Pantry, Community Action Partnership of Central Illinois and Dove, Inc.

Clinton Power Station has been a long-time supporter of DeWitt County’s Angel Tree. This year, the station presented the organization a check for $2,000. In addition to that employees adopted 52 children from DeWitt County, a new record for the plant.

“The DeWitt County Angel Tree thanks Clinton Power Station for their strong support,” said Sue Calvert, president of DeWitt County Angel Tree. “With the downturn in the economy we've seen the number of recipients increase. Exelon's donation and plant employees adopting children is truly appreciated.”

“We take our responsibilities of being good neighbors seriously,” said Russ Kearney, site vice president.  “We all know people affected by recent economic conditions and I’m proud to see our employees reach out with their support to those in need.”
