Chicago – Exelon Corporation today announced that Sunil “Sonny” Garg, senior vice president of human resources, has been promoted to president of Exelon Power, effective August 16. Garg will lead Exelon Power, which operates the company’s fleet of 105 fossil, hydroelectric and renewable generating units located in Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Texas.

In this role, Garg will be responsible for the continued safe operations of the fleet as well as expanding the portfolio within Exelon Power, including renewable energy.

“We are very excited to have a proven Exelon leader taking the helm of Exelon Power, which is a dynamic part of our family of companies,” said Charles Pardee, chief operating officer for Exelon Generation.  “Sonny’s energy and collaborative leadership style, coupled with his track record of management excellence, are the right combination to take Exelon Power into the future.”

Since joining Exelon in 2002, Garg has focused extensively on integration work, including process efficiencies and cost savings. Before leading Exelon’s human resources function, he served as vice president of finance for Exelon’s Business Services Company and co-led the company’s financial transformation integration program.

Prior to Exelon, Garg served as an assistant to Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley and was appointed a White House Fellow by President Bill Clinton. Previously, he was an associate with the Chapin Hall Center for Children at the University of Chicago, a research and development center focused on education.

Garg holds a bachelor’s degree and an MBA from the University of Chicago and a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard University.

Garg will report to Pardee. He replaces former Exelon Power President Doyle Beneby, who recently accepted a position at another company.
