Oyster Creek Station to Offer Community An Opportunity to Learn More about Nuclear Energy, Tritium

Public invited to learn about station operations June 10 at Community Information Night

Exelon Nuclear's Oyster Creek Generating Station will host a Community Information Night June 10, 2010. This unique, one-on-one forum is designed to inform and update the plant's neighbors about plant operations and nuclear energy issues.

The event is open to the public and will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET at the station's
education center. The Oyster Creek Education Center is located off of Route 9 on Intake View Lane, just north of the plant's main entrance in Forked River.

We understand that some of our neighbors may have questions about the tritium spill that occurred at Oyster Creek 13 months ago in April 2009. Your questions are important, and plant representatives and technical experts will be on hand to provide information on tritium as well as other topics including plant operations, safety and security. There will also be take-away information. Light refreshments will be served.

"Exelon Nuclear is committed to this community," said Mike Massaro, site vice president. "We consider it our responsibility to listen to our neighbors, answer questions and offer the opportunity to learn more about Oyster Creek and its immediate response to protect the water supply as well as public health and safety," Massaro said. "This community information night is one of many ways that we hope will provide answers to our neighbors and confirms our dedication to our community."

Oyster Creek is about 60 miles east of Philadelphia in Ocean County, New Jersey. The plant produces 636 net megawatts of electricity at full power, enough electricity to supply 600,000 typical homes, the equivalent to all homes in Monmouth and Ocean counties combined. In addition, plant workers, through their payrolls, are responsible for more $96 million injected directly into New Jersey's economy.
