LaSalle Generating Station Raises Record $217,000 in Annual United Way Campaign
In 2009, employees raised $217,000 during its annual United Way Campaign, a new record for LaSalle Station.
Marseilles, Illinois - While generating electricity is its core business, Exelon Nuclear’s LaSalle County Generating Station prides itself on being a good neighbor. In 2009, employees raised $217,000 during its annual United Way Campaign, a new record for LaSalle Station.
LaSalle Station employees have a long tradition of supporting their community and this year they again participated through the company’s payroll deduction program. Their donations will go to several local United Way chapters, including Eastern LaSalle County, Fox Valley, Illinois Valley, Grundy County, Metropolitan Chicago, Pontiac, Streator and Will County.
“Despite the recent down-turn in the economy, LaSalle Station and its employees continue to open up their hearts to the United Way,” said Shelli Ocepek, executive director, United Way of Eastern LaSalle County. “We depend on donations from local businesses like LaSalle Station, and equally as important are the many hours that employees volunteer in our local towns. I speak for many in the community when I say thank you to everyone at the station.”
In addition to the $217,000 raised by employees in its annual campaign, LaSalle Station is the signature sponsor of the United Way of Eastern LaSalle County’s Labor of Love event, which is a one-day home improvement blitz hosted each October.
“Our company and employees place great value on community commitment. We’re proud to be recognized as a leader in LaSalle County for our employees’ generosity,” said David Wozniak, site vice president, LaSalle Station. “We know there are many organizations like the United Way that need our support, and I’m proud to say that our company and employees recognize and accept this responsibility. We’ll continue live up to our commitments in 2010.”
LaSalle County Generating Station is located approximately 75 miles southwest of Chicago. With both units at full power, the site produces more than 2,200 megawatts net, which is enough electricity for 2.3 million homes.
