State-of-the-art upgrades and maintenance performed to ready Unit 3 for another continuous two-year run and proposed future power output increase.

Delta, PA - Peach Bottom Unit 3 reached 100 percent power yesterday at 12:47 a.m. EDT, successfully completing the station’s planned fall refueling outage. Operators removed Unit 3 from service September 9 to replace nearly one-third of the reactor’s fuel and perform maintenance that will keep the unit running safely and efficiently for another two-year cycle.

"The safe and reliable operation of Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station is always our top priority," said Site Vice President Mike Massaro. "Refueling outages are critical in assuring plant safety and long-term equipment reliability."

During the outage, Peach Bottom executed planned upgrades that will allow the station to generate additional power, pending approval by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Other major projects included upgrades to safety and electricity generation equipment.

Peach Bottom is home to two boiling water reactors that began operations in 1974 and jointly produce over 2,200 megawatts of electricity, powering approximately two million homes. Unit 2 continued to operate during the Unit 3 refueling outage.
