MARSEILLES, Ill. (Feb. 11, 2011) - LaSalle County Generating Station Unit 1 returned to service at 9:59 a.m. (CT), Friday, Feb. 11, when operators connected the plant's generator to the regional power grid.
The unit automatically shut down Tuesday, Feb. 1. The cause of the shutdown is believed to be due to severe blizzard conditions in the area that affected the plant's main power transformer. While the unit was offline, station personnel also performed other maintenance work.
"Our plant responded as designed, with no safety concerns or other issues. We've completed repairs to the transformer and have returned the unit to service," said Dave Rhoades, LaSalle Station site vice president.
The shutdown did not impact electrical service to Exelon customers.
LaSalle Station is located approximately 75 miles southwest of Chicago. With both units at full power, the site produces 2,286 megawatts net, which is enough electricity for 2.3 million homes.
