CLINTON, Ill. (March 12, 2009) The winning logo that will symbolize the upcoming 175th Anniversary of the City of Clinton was unveiled today in a ceremony that included presentation of awards to the top three contenders in the city’s anniversary logo contest. The cash awards were made possible by a $1,000 grant from Exelon Nuclear’s Clinton Power Station.
The City of Clinton will celebrate its quartoseptcentennial birthday over three days from June 18-20, 2010. With the goal of involving residents in the event, the celebration committee held a community-wide contest for a logo.
First place went to Patrick Peterson of Clinton, who received $200. His logo depicts four categories of the city’s history: agriculture, railroad, prominent residents and industry. The logo will be used on promotional materials, including letterhead, clothing, banners, and advertising.
Second place went to Fran Thompson and Heather Long of Clinton, who jointly received $150. Third place went to Stephen Bradd of Clinton, who received $100.
‘We’d like to thank Exelon for being a good neighbor and supporting our celebration’s planning efforts,” said Marjorie Devore, committee chair. “The selection of the logo is an important part of our celebration identity because it represents our past, our present and our future.”
“We are proud to be able to support and be a part of the City of Clinton’s upcoming milestone celebration planning activities,” said Russ Kearney, Clinton Power Station Site Vice President. “We appreciate the support the community has given us over the past several decades and we want to help the community celebrate many more years to come.”
The remainder of the grant may be used for other efforts to promote the city’s anniversary celebration.
