POTTSTOWN, Pa. - Workers at Limerick Generating Station were performing testing on plant instrumentation this morning when the Unit 1 turbine tripped offline, automatically shutting down the unit.
The plant responded as expected, safely and without incident. Limerick Unit 2 was unaffected and operating at 93% power after returning to service yesterday from an unplanned shutdown.
The plant is designed to shut down automatically as a safety precaution when certain conditions occur, such as the turbine tripping off line. Limerick operators are working to determine the cause and will restore the unit to service at the appropriate time.
There is no risk to the public, and there are no injuries associated with the shutdown.
Limerick Generating Station is located approximately 21 miles northwest of Philadelphia.
