BRACEVILLE, Ill. - Braidwood Generating Station employees, public officials and members of the public today celebrated the 25th anniversary for the station's first unit that was brought online in July 1988. The second unit was brought online in October of that same year.

For more than 25 years, Braidwood Station has been delivering electricity that produces no greenhouses gases to Illinois residents. Combined, the station's two units have generated more than 400 million megawatt hours of electricity since 1988. Annually, the two units produce nearly 19 million megawatts of electricity 24 hours a day, seven days a week, powering nearly 2 million homes.

"We're excited to mark this important anniversary," said Braidwood Site Vice President Mark Kanavos."  It is a testament to our commitment to safety and the hard work of our talented employees, many of whom have been on board since the plant came online in 1988. Braidwood's legacy is one of safe and reliable operations. I look forward to enhancing it as we continue to deliver emissions free electricity to the people of Illinois for decades to come."

Braidwood employs more than 850 people, many of whom live in the surrounding communities. Employees give back to the community through volunteerism and donations to charitable organizations throughout Will County. Last year alone, employees donated more than $240,000 to the United Way.

Braidwood Station sponsors many area sports teams and local community events. Its signature sponsorships and events include the Braidwood Summerfest fireworks, the Braidwood Shootout and Fishing for a Cure, which has raised more than $300,000 for charities since 2002.
