Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI)
Policy organization of the nuclear energy and technologies industry participating in both the national and global policy-making process. NEI’s objective is to ensure the formation of policies that promote the beneficial uses of nuclear energy and technologies in the United States and around the world.
U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)
Independent agency established by the U.S. Congress under the Energy Reorganization Act of 1974 to ensure adequate protection of the public health and safety, the common defense and security, and the environment in the use of nuclear materials in the United States.
Edison Electric Institute (EEI)
Association of U.S. shareholder-owned electric companies, international affiliates and industry associates worldwide. EEI's mission focuses on advocating public policy; expanding market opportunities; and providing strategic business information.
The Department of Energy (DOE)
Department of the Federal Government that fosters a secure and reliable energy system that is environmentally and economically sustainable. The DOE is committed to being a responsible steward of the Nation's nuclear weapons and to cleaning up its own facilities, as well as supporting continued United States leadership in science and technology.
Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC)
Independent regulatory agency within the Department of Energy that regulates interstate commerce of the transmission and sale for resale of natural gas; the transmission of oil by pipeline; the transmission and wholesale sales of electricity; as well as licenses and inspects private, municipal and state hydroelectric projects; oversees related environmental matters and administers accounting and financial reporting regulations and conducts of jurisdictional companies.
Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI)
Nonprofit organization committed to providing science and technology-based solutions to global energy customers. EPRI manages a far-reaching program of scientific research, technology development and product implementation.
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)
World's central intergovernmental forum for scientific and technical co-operation in the nuclear field, and as the international inspectorate for the application of nuclear safeguards and verification measures covering civilian nuclear programs.
Electric Power Generation Association (EPGA)
Regional trade association of major electric generating companies that supply wholesale power in Pennsylvania and surrounding states. Member companies own and operate over 75,000 megawatts of generating capacity.
Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC)
State agency with authority to oversee the financial and service practices of investor-owned electric, gas, telephone, water and sewer utilities in the state of Illinois. The ICC plays an active role in determining the prices that customers pay for these services.
Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission
State Commission that regulates and supervises the rates and service of the Pennsylvania’s public utilities, including electricity, water, natural gas and telephone. In addition, the Commission regulates taxis and other transportation vehicles.
World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO)
Organization that unites all nuclear electricity operators in the world. It facilitates the exchange of operating experience, so that its members can work together to achieve the highest possible standards of safety and reliability in operating their nuclear power plants.
World Nuclear Association (WNA)
Global industrial organization that seeks to promote the peaceful worldwide use of nuclear power as a sustainable energy resource for the coming centuries.
