ComEd Customers can now Participate in Innovative Hourly Pricing Programs
Under a legislatively mandated program approved by the Illinois Commerce Commission earlier this year, all ComEd residential customers now have the option to participate in the Residential Real-Time Pricing Program (RRTP) – where they will be billed for the power they consume based on hourly market prices.
Customers participating in the program will have the financial incentive to change their electricity usage habits to take advantage of lower-priced time periods and avoid heavy usage during higher-priced time periods. Program participants will receive hourly pricing and other useful information from the program’s third party administrator, Comverge.
The first 110,000 customers to enroll in the Residential Real-Time Pricing Program will pay an additional $2.25 per month service charge on their bill to cover a portion of the costs associated with the installation of a new meter, capable of maintaining hourly usage data. Additional program participants may face a higher monthly service fee and other program related installation costs.
Additionally, RTTP customers who also have central air conditioning units, internet access to the www.theWattSpot.com energy management portal, and a ComEd Nature First control switch installed can participate in the program’s Load Guard Automated Price Response Service – an innovative “set-and-forget” price responsive load control feature that is designed to switch the participant’s central air conditioning unit into a conservation mode for a two-hour period when power prices exceed the price level selected by the customer.
Interested customers can sign up and receive additional information for the RTTP and Load Guard programs by contacting Comverge at 1-866-WATTSPOT (1-866-928-8776) or by visiting theWattSpot.com.
