Did You Know...

Making sure there is enough insulation in your home is one of the most important ways to make it energy-efficient.

actFind Rebates and Incentives

Rebates and other incentive programs can offset the cost of products or home improvements needed to reduce your home’s energy use.

Rebates typically refund part of the purchase price of an appliance or other product. From time to time, ComEd offers product rebates to its residential customers. Watch this Web site for information about upcoming rebate programs.

Product discounts reduce the price a consumer pays for a product. ComEd offers discounted, energy-saving products to its residential customers through the Online Energy Store. All products sold to ComEd customers through the Online Energy Store are priced to reflect a discount of 20 percent.

Federal tax credits are available to home owners who make improvements to increase the energy efficiency of their home, and to those who install renewable energy systems. Federal tax credits are available for eligible efficiency measures that include improvements to the building’s insulation, windows, air and duct sealing, and heating and cooling systems.

Federal tax credits also are available to home owners who install eligible solar water-heating systems or photovoltaic systems in their homes. Solar water-heating systems use the sun’s heat to produce hot water, and photovoltaic systems use energy from the sun to produce electricity.

The State of Illinois offers a special assessment of solar energy systems for property tax purposes. For property owners who register with a chief county assessment officer, solar equipment is valued at no more than a conventional energy system. Eligible equipment includes active solar energy systems, passive solar energy systems, wind energy systems and geothermal energy systems.

A home owner who is buying, selling, refinancing or remodeling his or her home may be eligible for an Energy Efficient Mortgage (EEM). EEMs provide the borrower with special benefits when buying a home that is energy efficient or can be made efficient through the installation of energy-saving improvements. The Energy Efficient Mortgage is easy to use, federally recognized and can be applied to most home mortgages.
