Exelon’s fossil plants in West Medway, New Boston, and Framingham are peaking units, which can be used during times of peak energy demand. In total, the Exelon fleet in Massachusetts paid almost $1 million in property taxes in 2011.
Exelon’s merger with Constellation expands Exelon's fleet with the additions of Mystic and Fore River power plants. Constellation employs almost 250 residents in the state.
Constellation provides commercial, industrial, public sector and government agencies, municipalities and utilities with a comprehensive array of products and services to meet electricity, and sustainability needs. Constellation also provides competitive pricing for electricity, as well as renewable energy and solar options for residential customers.
In our ongoing effort to advance a clean energy future, Exelon achieved more than 56% of its annual Exelon 2020 goal to abate 15.7 million metric tons of GHG emissions through year-end 2010. One of the ways Exelon accomplished this goal was by retiring a less efficient and higher-emitting fossil fuel power plant in Massachusetts.
The latest addition of Mystic 8 and 9 and Fore River combined cycle gas turbines (CCGT) build on the company’s commitment to clean energy as part of Exelon 2020 by adding highly-efficient units that provide clean generation fueled by natural gas. In Massachusetts, Exelon can produce over 2,000 MW of electricity from CCGT’s located at Mystic and Fore River.
Constellation also works with its retail and wholesale customers to reduce energy consumption and offers renewable and sustainable options including:
- Energy certificates
- Load response solutions
Exelon is committed to strengthening the community in which we live and serve. In 2011, Exelon made grants totaling more than $58,000 to organizations in Massachusetts.
